The Rookery: Evolving Standards of Architecture in Chicago March 23, 2017 By Matt Baker of "Sustainable Chicago" It’s tempting to assume that a landmarked building like the Rookery has been preserved in architectural amber. But the world-renowned structure isn’t exactly the one that Daniel Burnham and John Root designed in the 1880s. After the turn of the century, Frank Lloyd Wright famously applied a gilded eggshell cladding to the lobby. In the 1930s, William Drummond, formerly a Wright protégé, added Art Deco elements, including bronze elevators etched with birds matching the building’s moniker. The twelfth story was largely rebuilt in the 1990s when Burnham & Root’s original office was restored.

Earning ISSA's CIMS Green Building Recertification with Mike McGee

Last week we sat down with Mike McGee, LEED AP O+M, to congratulate him and his team on the CIMS recertification of Able Facility Services. What does it take to become CIMS certified?  There are a couple phases. Initially, we went through all of the program requirements and collected (and in some cases created) necessary process documentation for the CIMS recertification. Once all the paperwork was in place we sent it to the ISSA for review. After approval from ISSA came the implementation of the program at current Able contracted sites. This included the creation of a site specific operations process documentation, customer communications, and employee involvement.  We then provided a list of (30) sites for the assessor to personally visit. They randomly selected eight and we visited those sites during a week-long tour.
