Last week we sat down with Mike McGee, LEED AP O+M, to congratulate him and his team on the CIMS recertification of Able Facility Services.

Mike McGee, LEED AP O+MWhat does it take to become CIMS certified?

There are a couple phases. Initially, we went through all of the program requirements and collected (and in some cases created) necessary process documentation for the CIMS recertification. Once all the paperwork was in place we sent it to the ISSA for review. After approval from ISSA came the implementation of the program at current Able contracted sites. This included the creation of a site specific operations process documentation, customer communications, and employee involvement.  We then provided a list of (30) sites for the assessor to personally visit. They randomly selected eight and we visited those sites during a week-long tour.

What does the process consist of?

The process consists of six categories - Quality Systems, Service Delivery, Human Resources, EH&S, Management Commitment and Green Building. Overall, the program is designed to be a management standard for a company to follow in order to be a high quality and professional organization in the industry.

What is the most challenging part of the process?

Execution is the biggest challenge. It's one thing for a corporate professional to write a procedure or policy from their desk, and it's another to walk into a work site and see the employees actually living that policy or procedure. Communication at all levels is important. The explanation of what we are trying to accomplish and why it is important needs to be communicated to managers, supervisors and line-level employees to be successful. This needs to happen during the certification process and on an ongoing basis.

Why is it important that Able became CIMS certified?

Able prides itself on a long history dedicated to quality. By going through the process to become CIMS certified, Able basically opened its doors to an independent consultant hired by the largest cleaning industry organization in the world and asked them to evaluate our business. Earning the highest possible certification reaffirms our commitment to quality and our standing in the marketplace. This designation places our company in the top 1% of all cleaning companies in the United States. This is important because there are many companies that make promises, but can't deliver. We are especially proud to have earned GB Honors. The CIMS Certification filters out only the cream of the crop companies that are capable of consistently delivering high quality and professional cleaning services. To learn more about CIMS visit the ISSA website HERE.[mk_image src="" image_width="800" image_height="350" crop="false" svg="false" lightbox="false" group="_general" frame_style="simple" target="_self" caption_location="inside-image" align="left" margin_bottom="10"]
